The English Football Association (FA) is conducting an inquiry into Brentford and England forward Ivan Toney for potential betting rule violations.
Although no charges have been filed, Toney is allegedly the subject of a seven-month FA investigation into purported violations of football gambling regulations.
It is thought that the alleged violations happened before Toney joined Brentford and that there is no indication he ever gambled against his current club.
Toney stated on Twitter, “I am aware of a national newspaper story about myself and an ongoing FA investigation.”
“I am cooperating with the FA in their inquiries and will not be making any further statements until the investigation is complete.”
Toney was selected for Gareth Southgate’s most recent England team, but the forward did not participate in the UEFA Nations League games against Italy or Germany.
However, with Southgate scheduled to announce his final 26-man roster on November 10th, he is still hoping to make England’s World Cup squad.
“Representing my nation at a World Cup finals has always been a dream of mine, and I plan to work hard and give myself the best chance to achieve that,” Toney continued.
All players, coaches, managers, club employees, directors, and licensed agents participating in the Premier League are expressly forbidden by FA regulations from engaging in any type of football betting.
Anthony has been prohibited from participating in any and all soccer-related endeavors globally, encompassing both direct and indirect involvement.
Brentford Football Club, his team, issued a communication confirming the news articles and the current Football Association inquiry but opted not to elaborate further.
