The committee head, Member of Parliament Peta Murphy, indicated that “this investigation will examine internet wagering and assess if current legislation, rules, safeguards for consumers, and educational and assistance initiatives are sufficient to mitigate gambling-related detriment.”
“The group is apprehensive about the increasing impact of digital gaming sites on the lives of Australian citizens, especially the visibility of gambling promotions to kids and adolescents, and how this might be contributing to an increase in compulsive gambling down the line.”
