Andy Wright, the top executive overseeing trading at FanDuel Betting & Gaming (FBG), has declared his departure after a two-year stint with the firm.
Wright joined FanDuel in the spring of 2022, coming from KingMakers, where he held the position of Director of Trading. During his time at FanDuel, the company unveiled its sports wagering product in the first month of 2023, becoming the first operator to establish a physical sports betting location within an NFL arena. The company made its debut at the stadium, then known as FedEx Field, in Maryland.
FanDuel has since expanded throughout the United States, introducing its online casino in November 2023. Furthermore, during Wright’s leadership, FBG acquired the American operations of PointsBet for a sum of $225 million (£179.2 million/€208.5 million).
Wright stated in a LinkedIn post that he was “deeply thankful” for his time at FanDuel, contributing to the development of its betting and gaming division.
“It’s time to rejuvenate, spend more time with loved ones, and then seek out a new challenge,” Wright remarked. “Best wishes to the FanDuel Betting & Gaming team. I’ll be rooting for you from a distance!”
Following the purchase of PointsBet’s US operations, FanDuel finalized the acquisition last week and went live in New Jersey. The PointsBet transaction fueled FanDuel’s growth.
FanDuels sports betting platform is now operational in twenty American states, encompassing all regions previously managed by PointsBet. FBG asserts that the inclusion of New Jersey signifies that their sports wagering platform encompasses approximately ninety-five percent of the American online market.
PointsBet patrons in New Jersey will automatically transition to FanDuel Sportsbook, with user names, security codes, and other account information remaining unchanged.
New Jersey represents a substantial launch site for FanDuel Sportsbook, as the state authorizes legal online casino operations. This marks the fourth state where FanDuel Sportsbook has introduced its online casino, following Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
The FanDuel acquisition of PointsBet was finalized after an initial agreement was reached for one hundred and fifty million dollars. DraftKings’ one hundred and ninety-five million dollar offer elevated the price, though FanDuel ultimately finalized the transaction in June of 2023.
