The Gaming Innovation Group, known as GiG, has joined forces with Betway to assist the online sports wagering operator in establishing a presence in Portugal.
GiG is supplying Betway with its online gaming platform and sports betting services in Portugal. This arrangement was initially disclosed in April of 2022. Betway secured its sports betting and online gaming licenses in Portugal back in February of 2020.
Betway marks GiG’s second B2B partner to launch operations in Portugal. GoldenPark also made its debut in the nation last year, leveraging GiG’s player account management and sports betting services.
Betway’s CEO, Anthony Werkman, stated, “As part of our ambitious growth plan for the Portuguese market in 2024, the GiG platform will aid us in accomplishing our objectives, enhancing the sports betting experience for existing Betway Portugal patrons, and attracting new clientele.”
“This agreement will also enable our teams to collaborate effectively in pursuit of our shared goals and aspirations within the country.”
This agreement represents the first since former SBTech and DraftKings executives, Richard Carter and Andrew Cochrane, assumed leadership roles at GiG. These dual appointments are part of a restructuring initiative that will divide GiG’s business operations.
Following a comprehensive evaluation initiated in February 2023, GiG has determined to reorganize its operations. This division will separate GiG Media’s affiliate branch and platform from the sports wagering division, establishing them as autonomous entities.
The media division encompasses all GiG media offerings, such as affiliate marketing services. The platform and sports betting division encompasses technological online betting platforms, including Sportnco, which GiG acquired in April 2022, front-end development, and other managed services.
Carter, previously the head of SBTech, was appointed as the leader of the platform and sports betting division last August. Cochran joined the division as Chief Commercial Officer in November.
Cochran, discussing the new venture in Portugal, stated that the agreement helps solidify GiG’s standing in the B2B industry.
“This is an exciting period to join GiG,” Cochran remarked. “We continue to invest in our products and technological capabilities to support more top-tier clients joining and provide more appealing product features for existing clients.”
GiG Finalizes Acquisition of KaFe Rocks
This announcement also follows GiG’s acquisition of affiliate group KaFe Rocks last month. The group operates over 30 brands across 20+ markets, including Time2Play and USCasinos.
The agreement comes a year after GiG acquired AskGamblers. GiG stated that the deal strengthens GiG Media’s position in the online casino affiliate space, particularly in North America.
GiG also stated that the acquisition will aid them in expanding their GiG Media operations into additional territories.
