Pennsylvania’s gambling income rose by 8.9% in July, hitting $467 million, fueled by growth in internet gambling and sports wagering.
Pennsylvania’s gambling income in July climbed by 8.9% to $467 million, compared to the same period last year. This is attributed to the expansion of online gambling and sports betting.
The state’s gambling income in July was 6% higher than the $429.1 million generated in July 2022 and 6% higher than the $440.5 million generated in June.
Traditional slot machines remained the primary source of revenue, generating a total of $214.7 million for the month. This represents a 0.4% increase from the previous month. In contrast, revenue from traditional table games decreased by 3.8% to $83.4 million.
Turning to online gambling, the market experienced a year-over-year increase of 34.8% in revenue, reaching $132.9 million. This includes $94.9 million in online slot machine revenue, an increase of 31.9%, and $35.4 million in internet table game revenue, an increase of 48%.
Pennsylvania’s Hollywood Casino, owned by Penn National Gaming, continues to lead the pack with $54.4 million in online gambling revenue. Valley Forge Casino Resort came in second with $29.2 million, followed by Rivers Casino Philadelphia with $26.8 million.
Pennsylvania’s sports betting revenue reached $32.1 million in July.
Furthermore, sports betting revenue also saw an increase, growing by 26.1% to $32.1 million. Of this total, $29.1 million came from online betting, while the remaining $3 million came from traditional sports betting.
In terms of betting handle, this also increased by 0.6% year-over-year to $338.5 million.
Fanduel, a collaborator with Foxwoods, once again dominated the marketplace with $13.7 million in earnings and $127.6 million in wagers. At the same time, the video game terminal market continues to face difficulties, with revenue declining 7.2% to $4.4 million in July. Penn’s Marquee led the way with $2 million in earnings for the month, ahead of Jango’s $380,910. Meadows’ Hollywood Casino and Barstool followed with $8.5 million in earnings and $88.9 million in wagers, followed by its sister company Morgantown’s Hollywood Casino, also associated with Barstool, with $1.9 million in earnings and $24.6 million in wagers. Furthermore, revenue from fantasy sports competitions decreased 23.6% year-over-year to $655,886. Of this, DraftKings contributed $551,233 and FanDuel contributed $96,917.
