PointsBet has joined forces with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) to launch a new investigation into accountable gaming practices by online wagering businesses.
This research will examine how the sector, government agencies, and specialists in gambling issues would respond to various scenarios where simulated online betting clients exhibit signs of a gambling problem.
PointsBet collaborated with the NCPG and the Massachusetts Gaming and Health Commission to develop an anonymous questionnaire that will be distributed to attendees of the 2022 National Conference on Gambling Addiction and Responsible Gambling.
The questionnaire will feature three fictitious customers who display indications of a gambling problem, and participants will be asked to imagine they are a betting company and determine appropriate actions for these clients.
“As legal sports betting is expanding rapidly throughout the United States, a dedication to responsible gambling will directly impact the well-being of players and the future of the industry,” remarked Johnny Aitken, CEO of PointsBet USA.
Identifying and addressing problematic gambling presents a complex and sensitive challenge. Operators frequently encounter difficulty in determining the most effective methods to assist patrons exhibiting signs of a gambling issue.
This research endeavor seeks to comprehend public perspectives on solutions for individuals impacted by problem gambling and to guide operators in making more informed decisions regarding this matter.
NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte stated: “Online gambling enterprises should provide a diverse array of responsible gambling instruments. These instruments ought to undergo regular inspection and assessment by all stakeholders to ensure their efficacy in aiding customers.
“We anticipate that the survey findings will initiate a dialogue among operators, regulatory bodies, treatment providers, researchers, and problem gambling advocates to facilitate responsible gambling choices in the face of challenges posed by online gambling companies.”
