Mississippi sports wagering activity saw a 7.9% rise in April, according to the Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGCB). Despite this increase in activity, the state experienced a slight decrease in earnings.

Mississippi residents placed $35.5 million (£28.7 million/€33.9 million) on sporting events in April, a jump from $32.9 million in April 2021, but a 25.9% drop from $47.9 million in March of this year.
Earnings were down 2.3% year-over-year to $4.2 million, though this was slightly higher than the $4.1 million recorded in March 2022, despite the lower wagering activity.
Casinos along the coast remained the preferred location for bettors, generating a total of £2.5 million in earnings from $23.5 million in wagers.
Casinos in the central region generated $941,421 in earnings from a total of $6.6 million wagered. Northern casinos generated $747,476 in earnings from $5.5 million in wagers.
Basketball was once again the most popular betting sport across all regions of Mississippi, with coastal casinos taking $10 million in wagers, central casinos $2 million, and northern casinos $2.9 million.
The MGCB also noted that the state’s total monthly win rate across all casinos was 11.9%, down 17.1% year-over-year.
