Sporting events across the United Kingdom will get back to their usual schedule this week, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. A number of games were called off over the weekend due to the Queen’s passing.

British sports will go back to their normal routine after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. All matches in the English Premier League and the English Football League (EFL) were postponed over the weekend of September 10-11, while all matches today (September 12) were also called off as a sign of respect to the Queen, who passed away on September 8.

Many other sporting events planned for the weekend were also postponed, including all horse racing on September 11, while the Tour of Britain also canceled its final three stages in Gloucestershire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.

In addition, the cricket test match between England and South Africa at the Oval in London was canceled on September 9, while the second day of the London Golf Open near Wentworth was also not played.

Despite the UK remaining in a period of national mourning, some event organizers have confirmed that matches will resume as usual this week, ahead of the Queen’s funeral on September 19.

The latest round of EFL matches – the three leagues below the Premier League – will go ahead as planned tomorrow (September 13).

The English Football Association (EFA) has declared that games will proceed as scheduled starting Tuesday, September 13th, with commemorations for the late Queen Elizabeth II occurring at venues across the nation.

A moment of silence will be observed before the commencement of matches, athletes will don black armbands, banners will be hoisted at half-mast, and the national anthem will be performed at stadiums.

The league and teams will collaborate with law enforcement to address any difficulties that may emerge regarding specific match security.

The Scottish Football Federation has also stated that it intends to restart professional football games this week.

The SFA stated: “Matches will proceed, contingent upon the availability of Police Scotland resources, however, any professional matches planned for Monday, September 19th, the day of Her Majesty’s funeral, will be rescheduled.”

“Teams may desire to hold a period of silence and/or play the national anthem before kickoff this week, as a gesture of respect and in accordance with the national period of mourning, and players may wish to wear black armbands.”

Football matches in Wales and Northern Ireland will also resume, but the top-tier league has yet to declare whether its matches scheduled for this weekend will proceed as planned.

Equine racing in the United Kingdom has resumed, but there won’t be any contests on the day of the monarch’s funeral. The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) stated that this will provide everyone in the racing community an opportunity to grieve and express gratitude to the Queen for her backing of the sport and the nation.

Racing on Monday, September 19th is canceled. Further information will be released shortly for race participants, courses, and enthusiasts.

Racing will proceed as scheduled for the remainder of the week.
